Catalogs to find Books

Library of Congress Call Numbers

To find an item on the shelf, you must know its Library of Congress call number.

Call numbers are composed of:

  • letters in alphabetical order
  • numbers in numeric order
  • further sets of letters (in alphabetical order) and numbers (in decimal order).
  • Sometimes, there is a year or volume number at the end.

Below are some examples, listed in order:
